The artist of the week: a nice story: P.I.N.O Lopez aka DrunkMan aka MariskalAcid

This story begins thanks to my housemate, who has a huge musical culture and always shows me good music. One afternoon, I asked him if he knew a good techno DJ, and we spent the whole day listening to tracks and sessions of the artist that concerns us today, his musical style dazzled me and today I want to share it with all of you.

Music is his passion, and computing is his profession, so he allows himself to produce, play, and DJ only what he likes and nothing else.

He is also an extreme metal bassist since the mid ’90s, he has played in the groups KRYPTICY, SPITSHIT, ROTTEN GOATS, SERVI DIABOLI, TUMBA, THE DIE IS CAST, Tibetan Skullz…

He started with electronic music in the late 90’s and today he continues to DJ with CDs and vinyl, and almost half of the tracks he plays are produced by himself.

In 2005, together with J-Ka, M.J.V. and Dr. Exposito created the AstralTech ravero sounsystem being one of the pioneers in setting up raves on the Costa del Sol, Andalusia.

His record label continues to release tracks on many platforms such as SPOTIFY, ITUNES, AMAZON, BEATPORT, Juno Records, etc. AstralTech’s other digital labels are AstralNRG & AstralKickz.

Here are some of the questions I have had the pleasure of asking him:

What are your reference djs?
Lisa Pin-up, Rachell Auburn, Lisa Lashes, D.A.V.E. the Drummer, Anne Savage, Paul Glazby, Amber D, Dr Chekill, OD404, Dj Karlos, Chris Liberator, Lab-4, BK, Nick Sentience, Harry Diamond, Chris C, Andy Farley, Phil Reynolds among others.

Which style or styles defines your sound?

I generally represent the styles that no one else is playing or producing around me at the time; when everyone was playing breakbeat, I was already playing hard dance, when everyone was playing house, I was playing drum and bass, when the psytrance craze came in, I was playing Schranz… Currently what I play the most is UK Hard Dance and Acid Techno.

What is your favorite track?

Of the ones I have mine on vinyl, «La Resaka» is the one that I like the most; and in digital all mine of acid and techno humor in general.

Which producers influence you?
Lisa Pin-up, D.A.V.E. the Drummer, Defective Audio, Lucy Fur, Organ Donors, Paul Glazby, Chris Liberator, Lab-4, BK, Nick Sentience, Harry Diamond, Chris C, Andy Farley, Phil Reynolds, Nick Rowland, Mauro Picotto, Livio Tracks, Pzylo, Pio Lernihan, Pierz Tremaine, Rene Reiter, Ali Wilson, Matt Smallwood, Yves Deruyter, Showtek, Dean Peters, Pranksterz…

Which artists have you shared lineups with?

I have had the pleasure of playing music at raves, parties or festivals with great artists like Robert Natus, J-Ka, M.J.V., D.A.V.E. The Drummer, Dr Exposito, The Geezer, Rackitt, Dr Chekill, Alex Calver, Banga Matt, Scott Kemix, Ganez The Terrible, J. Walker, Aaron Liberator, Maxx, Hard Bart, Jimmy Van de Velde, eRRe, DarkLine, Venganza, Oscar Mulero, Christian Varela, James Ruskin, Voisson, Memo, Dj Karlos, Felipe Volumen, Warren, Pellejo, Alex Morr, Ag26, Dub Elements, Oxtremo, Alkaloid23, Nonombreak, Joan, Felo, Alme, Riuk, LongBeat, Family Destroyer, Mort, Khemia, Laura Core, Little Sick, and so many more.

What is your favorite club?
Any club in Valencia or Barcelona, where you can feel free playing what you like more without the typical guy coming to the booth asking for commercial music.

What has been the event where you have most enjoyed DJing?

My first bowling in London in 2001 and in all the raves in Spain in which I have played in the last 20 years.
