The artist of the week: Phon

Thanks to our Facebook page I have had the opportunity to reconnect with Phon, the artist that concerns us this week, whom I met a few years ago at the famous raves in southern Andalusia. Today I want to share with you a little of his history in electronics, more than 20 years of experience in the booths endorse him with an exquisite taste for music.

What are your origins in electronic music?
Well, I would say that at the end of the 90s is when I began to discover electronics with groups like Prodigy, Bomfunk Mc’s amoung others, and when they opened a club in Aguadulce, Almería, called Blue is when I began to discover other styles such as house, tech house, although it didn’t take long for me to opt for darker and more moving sounds and techno / hardtechno was what I ended up falling in love with and it was clear to me that I had to understand and master what those DJs did that I didn’t even understand but called me a lot attention..

What are your reference DJs?
My reference Djs are the most varied, at the beginning of my career in this my great references were Oscar Mulero and a local artist who I still consider one of the best, Nhitto. Then, artists like Exium, Cristian Wunchs, Umek, Dave Clarke, Noisia, among others, I always try to take what I like the most about each artist.

With what style or styles do you define your sound?
I have played many styles, Techno, Hard techno, Schranz, Drum and bass, Neurofunk, Technoid, but I think the style that defines me the most is Techno, my sessions are always influenced by my beginnings with that music,” I think is that what make special and different my sets.

What is your favorite track?
I don’t think I could choose a favorite track because there are so many, as you will understand, you can’t ask a DJ that question (laughs) it’s not about the favorite song it is about to pick the right track for each moment, but if I have to choose, would be : The real Surgeon and Audio Headroom.

Who are your reference producers?
Oscar mulero, Tensal, Exium, Loktibrada, James rusking, Reeko, Mark broom, Jeff mills, Noisia, Current value, Proket, kalasnikov, Impak, Kung, Audio, … they are all many talented artists.

With which artists have you shared lineup?
With many artists and very varied such as Viper xxl, Counterstrike, Lowroller, Vitalic, Pet duo, Noisia, Dub elemets, Proket, Current value, and many more that now I do not remember

What is your favorite club?
Could be one of those that I have visited in London such as The Clable or even Fabric, but in reality where I have had the most moments and almost where I have enjoyed the most has been in Industrial Copera and in Sala Malibú or Sala Magic, where I started.

What has been the event where you have most enjoyed DJing?
Although in larger festivals Circus Nation or Winter festival they have undoubtedly been unforgettable experiences, in somewhat smaller clubs as you connect more with people, In Sala el Tren for example a Bolo that I had to go to replace Audio an international artist who due to problems in his trip he could not attend and he gave me one of the best nights of my journey, and in Sala Chamán I have had several quite good hits closing parties, which is what I like the most and where I feel more comfortable why can I develop my move more as I really understand it and the public is more receptive.

What are your projects?
Well, this will not stop, and I have some projects up my sleeve but that I still cannot finish revealing, what I can say is that it is like connecting with the root of why one started in this world and that I hope it has a good acceptance, I am putting a lot of effort into it and working hard on it with a lot of love so I hope I can bring you more things soon.

El club granadino Moonback reabre sus puertas con un special vinyl night

Uno de nuestros colaboradores ha tenido el placer de asistir a la reapertura de Moonback, a continuación, os compartimos la crónica de la noche:

Esta semana la cita electrónica era más modesta pero no por ello menos atrayente e interesante.

Para la reapertura de Moonback the club, Jesús J Rules nos había programado un cartel de lujo y exclusivo en formato vinilo.

Los djs invitados que nos harían bailar esta noche eran el bastetano Pablo Ballesta, encargado de abrir la noche; Random Stuff para sacudirnos los huesos y al cierre, el mejor referente granadino del más puro Hard Groove, Eloy Palma.

Atraídos por las ganas de escuchar buen Techno, a las 20:00 h de la tarde atravesábamos las puertas del Moonback the club y girando vinilos arrancaba Pablo Ballesta. Con un control total sobre la mesa y platos, Ballesta nos ha deleitado con una sesión de Techno puro, sin variables y muy contundente. Calculando la velocidad de las transiciones ha conseguido que las 2 horas de sesión se nos hayan hecho cortas.

Tras los aplausos del público, Random Stuff se convertía en el jefe de cabina y en el encargado de hacernos viajar con su música.

Con la exigencia y habilidad que le caracteriza tanto en la selección musical, como en la mezcla de los temas elegidos, Víctor ha creado una sesión progresiva, cargada de bombo y de una calidad máxima con la que ha conseguido hacer vibrar y sudar al público allí presente. Ha ido lanzando temazo tras temazo mezclados con la maestría que le hace ser un grande.

A falta de media hora de sesión nos ha puesto patas arriba con el Work de James Ruskin, remixeado por Steve Rachman y poco después sacaba de su maleta de vinilos a Exium, con el tema Supremist con el que ha consagrado su actuación.

Llegaba la media noche y hacía acto de presencia el encargado de cerrar la fiesta, Eloy Palma. Su público le esperaba y él se deshacía de ganas de poder volver a pinchar para todos los presentes y demostrar que el Hard Groove está más de moda que nunca.

Dos horas de música sin tregua en las que hemos disfrutado y bailado como antes de esta desafortunada pandemia.

No nos ha faltado el Remix de Sven Vath, Eurostar, con el que Eloy, una vez más ha conseguido que el público se deshaga bailando.

Con un apoteósico cierre, Eloy Palma vuelve a demostrar que, si el dj disfruta de su trabajo, el público lo hace aún más y se lo demuestra con una gran ovación al término de la sesión.

Agradecer a todo el personal del club el trato recibido y como no, a su gerente, Jesús, felicitarle por el éxito de esta reapertura que esperamos siga adelante.

News: Industrial Copera reopens again after more than one year

Industrial Copera is well known internationally for the techno crew, is this comes as no surprise to me.

Today we have good news, as Granada’s temple of the music opens it’s doors again.

Last Friday, they inaugurated the techno nights with an impressive lineup, 7 hours of techno with ÁNGEL MOLINA, with the tickets sold out.

Next Friday, the collective T-Label is back with LE CONÉ, MOMENTUM, RPTLS and UTOPIAN. Aside from electronic music, Industrial Copera is hosting other concerts and performances with a huge variety of styles, we will keep you posted on our social networks about the different events.

We are so happy to see that one of the best clubs in Spain is back after having fought so hard for the reopening.

Crónica: El techno vuelve a Industrial Copera después de más de un año de la mano de Ángel Molina

La cita era obligada, los nervios a flor de piel. Después de más de un año volvía a la que es mi casa, la sala Industrial Copera y con el cartel perfecto, 7 horas de techno de la mano de Ángel Molina.

Con las entradas agotadas, 100 personas éramos las elegidas, muchas ganas de ver a la familia del templo del techno que tanto han luchado para la reapertura y como no, de volver a ver a grandes amigos amantes de la música, que tan ansiosos como yo esperaban para poder pisar de nuevo la pista.

Aunque me perdí el inicio, cuando llegué, sonaba un techno IDM, súper depurado, con bombo de menos a más como era de esperar.

Con un techno sin tregua, Ángel divide su sesión cada dos horas, aumentando la contundencia y la progresividad de la sesión con un implacable sonido.

A las 9.30 de la noche sonaba “Driving in Circles” de Setaoc Mass, sobre las 10 un corte de Divide “Opcode”, poco después sonaba “Mg0039” de Selección Natural, horas más tarde soltaba un remix de Matrixmann a la señora Ellen Allien con un track titulado “I can’t see U” o un remix de Otodojo para Truncate, “Missing” por nombrar algunos.

Pura elegancia con una técnica super depurada, tocando varios estilos, puro techno old school, rozando el hardtechno, acid y noventero, y terminando con un techno melódico ambiental tan personal que nos cautivó a todos.

El artista de la semana: SH4RIN

En plena pandemia tuve la oportunidad de conocer a nuevos artistas, uno de ellos fue de la mano del colectivo Matriz, a los platos estaba SH4RIN, que nos deleitó con una sesión a vinilo de un techno muy personal y atrayente que me desconectó de la realidad durante un par de horas.

Hoy tengo la oportunidad de compartir su historia y su música con vosotros, espero que lo disfrutéis como yo lo hice cuando la vida nos alejaba de nuestras preferencias diarias.

A continuación, comparto con vosotros las preguntas que he tenido el placer de hacerle:

¿Cuáles son tus orígenes en la música electrónica?

Siempre sentí curiosidad por la música electrónica y la mezcla, a muy temprana edad comenzaba a jugar con los vinilos de mi padre intentando mezclar y jugar con los equipos, desmontando dos walkmans para mezclar dos cintas, hasta que en la adolescencia fui a mi primera fiesta Techno y encontré el verdadero sonido que me gusta. pasaba horas detrás de las cabinas mirando a los djs y la música que pinchaban.

¿Cuáles son tus djs de referencia?

Mis primeros djs de referencia fueron Oscar Mulero, Christian Wunch, Reeko y Jeff Mils, pero actualmente hay muchos djs de calidad como pueden ser Claudio PRC, Takaaki Itoh o Function entre otros.

¿Con qué estilo o estilos te defines?

Me gusta jugar con las variantes de la electrónica, si tuviera que definir mi estilo sería un Techno oscuro, profundo con texturas y ambientes atmosféricos.

¿Cuál es tu track favorito?

No sabría decirte mi tema favorito, pero si tengo que decirte uno seria: Casa – Jeff Mills.

¿Cuáles son tus productores de referencia?

Tengo muchos artistas que me gustan y me inspiran como son Luigi Tozzi, Blazej Malinowski, Svreca, Orbe, Michal Wolski, Primas Code, Forest On Stasys y Sciahri entre otros muchos. Actualmente también doi importancia a escuchar a nuevos productores españoles como son Notzing y Oxygeno me gustan bastante los sonidos y texturas que sacan. Y los jóvenes productores como son Not a Headliner, Rodiaz y Dj Handikap sus temas llenos de groove son muy agresivos me recuerdan al Techno Old School que escuchaba en mis comienzos.

¿Con qué artistas has compartido line up?

Puedo sentirme orgulloso de haber compartido cabina con grandes artistas como son Tensal, Steve Parker y Jose Poug entre otros, y con artistas nacionales como son Hector Mad, Kuroi, David Mallada y con artistas no tan conocidos pero que vienen con mucha fuerza y una gran pasión por el arte de la mezcla como son Borvac, Marcos F, XnX, Noloc, Jala, F-on, Dzeko, Milo y Vrika y alguno más que se me olvida.

¿Cuál es tu club favorito?

Me gustan muchos clubs el primer club que pise fue La Real en Oviedo y me impacto bastante ese lugar me dejo marcado una pena que esté cerrado desde hace tiempo, actualmente me gustan muchos, pero si tengo que decirte uno sería About Blank en Berlín, cada vez que visito ese club es un auténtico viaje en todos los aspectos.

¿Cuál ha sido el evento donde más has disfrutado pinchando?

Especialmente disfruto mucho pinchando junto a mis compañeros en un proyecto que tenemos entre manos llamado BlÖck, pero disfruto mucho en cada evento el conectar con la gente es una sensación bastante gratificante.

¿En qué formato pinchas?

En Vinilo, me gusta la conexión con la música que se consigue pinchando en este formato. Recomiendo a todo el mundo que pruebe a mezclarse dos vinilos en su vida.

¿Cuáles son tus proyectos?

Actualmente estoy en dos proyectos BlÖck y Onyro. Me gusta mucho poder participar en ellos y formar parte del equipo. Con la situación actual que pasamos del Covid-19 es difícil programar cosas y eventos. Actualmente BlÖck la tenemos parada hasta que vuelva el mundo a la normalidad y volvamos a disfrutar de la noche, así que actualmente presto todo mi esfuerzo a Onyro es una fiesta con un ambiente bastante peculiar con toques atmosféricos y secuencias hipnóticas que te hacen relajarte y disfrutar del momento, recomiendo a todo el mundo que pruebe la experiencia ya que además se realiza en un club mítico de Madrid el remodelado Specka.

The artist of the week: SH4RIN

In the middle of the pandemic, I had the opportunity to meet new artists, one of them was with the Matriz collective, SH4RIN was on the decks, who delighted us with a very personal and attractive techno session on vinyl that disconnected me from reality, for a couple of hours.

Today, I have the opportunity to share his story and his music with you, I hope you enjoy it as I did when life took us away from our daily preferences.

What are your origins in electronic music?
I was always curious about electronic music and mixing, at a very early age I began to play with my father’s vinyls trying to mix and play with the equipment, disassembling two walkmans to mix two tapes, until in adolescence I went to my first party Techno and I found the real sound that I like. I spent hours behind the booths watching the DJs and the music playing.

What are your reference DJs?
My first reference DJs were Oscar Mulero, Christian Wunch, Reeko, and Jeff Mills, but currently, there are many quality DJs such as Claudio PRC, Takaaki Itoh, or Function among others.

With what style or styles do you define your sound?
I like to play with the electronic variants, if I had to define my style it would be a dark, deep Techno with atmospheric textures and atmospheres.

What is your favorite track?
I could not tell you my favorite subject, but if I have to tell you one it would be: House – Jeff Mills.

Who are your reference producers?
I have many artists that I like and inspire me, such as Luigi Tozzi, Blazej Malinowski, Svreca, Orbe, Michal Wolski, Primas Code, Forest On Stasys, and Sciahri among many others. Nowadays I also attach importance to listening to new Spanish producers such as Notzing and Oxygeno. I quite like the sounds and textures they produce. And young producers such as Not a Headliner, Rodiaz, and Dj Handikap, their songs full of grooves are very aggressive, they remind me of the Techno Old School that I listened to in my early days.

With which artists have you shared lineup?
I can feel proud to have shared the booth with great artists such as Tensal, Steve Parker, and Jose Poug among others, and with national artists such as Hector Mad, Kuroi, David Mallada and with artists not so well known but who come with great strength and great passion for the art of mixing such as Borvac, Marcos F, XnX, Noloc, Jala, F-on, Dzeko, Milo and Vrika and some more that I forget.

I like many clubs, the first club I stepped on was La Real in Oviedo and I was quite shocked by that place, it left me a shame that it has been closed for a long time, nowadays, I like many, but if I have to tell you one it would be About Blank in Berlin, each Every time I visit that club it is a real journey in all aspects.

What has been the event where you have most enjoyed DJing?
I especially enjoy DJing with my colleagues in a project that we have in hand called BlÖck, but I really enjoy in each event connecting with people is a very rewarding feeling.

In what format do you play?
On Vinyl, I like the connection with music that is achieved by clicking in this format. I recommend everyone to try mixing two vinyls in their life.

What are your projects?
I am currently in two projects BlÖck and Onyro. I really like being able to participate in them and be part of the team. With the current situation that we have from Covid-19, it is difficult to schedule things and events. Currently, BlÖck we have it stopped until the world returns to normal and we enjoy the night again, so currently I lend all my effort to Onyro, it is a party with a quite peculiar atmosphere with atmospheric touches and hypnotic sequences that make you relax and enjoy At the moment, I recommend everyone to try the experience since the remodeled Specka is also held in a mythical club in Madrid.

El artista de la semana: Marisol García

Gracias a nuestra página de Facebook, he tenido la oportunidad de conectar con la artista que nos ocupa esta semana, Marisol García es una Dj, productora, bajista y cantante nacida en Gran Canaria, criada en una familia de músicos, la cual dirige desde 2018 su propio colectivo, «Pulsar Events» centrado en la cultura Techno y en la sostenibilidad del Medio Ambiente.

A continuación, compartimos con vosotros las preguntas que hemos tenido el placer de hacerle:

¿Cuáles son tus orígenes en la música electrónica?

Empecé a estudiar música de forma profesional con 16 años (allá por el 2006) titulándome en bajo eléctrico y empezando a cantar, aunque me crié en familia de músicos y desde muy niña me enseñaron a tocar instrumentos.

Después de unos cuantos años en la música (habiendo actuado en musicales, corales, orquesta filarmónica y tras pasar por el conservatorio), en 2013 me introduje en la electrónica cantando en diferentes clubes, discotecas, festivales, concursos… y bueno una cosa llevó a la otra! jaja me considero una persona muy entusiasta y curiosa que le gusta aprender de todo y pinchar me parecía algo súper divertido que debía aprender, dado mi amor por la música electrónica, que me viene desde niña (fui deportista profesional y el trance era parte de mi vida). Siempre entrenábamos con trance a tope en los pabellones y recuerdo eso como una de las experiencias más chulas de mi vida, fue una época realmente emocionante y bonita y sin duda, me dio muchos de los ingredientes que hoy día me hacen amar el techno.

¿Cuáles son tus djs de referencia?

Nina Kraviz y Marcel Dettman.

¿Con que estilo o estilos te defines?

TECHNO, en todo su amplio espectro de colores y texturas.

¿Qué tipo de música escuchas?

Me encanta escuchar de todo, música clásica, rock, pop, country, música de los 80… la verdad que disfruto muchísimo con diversos estilos musicales. Toda la buena música, siempre es bienvenida. El trance es sin duda uno de mis estilos favoritos y también el Synthpop.

¿Cuál es tu club favorito?

Difícil… no he tenido ocasión de ver mundo ni de ver demasiados clubes, así que aún no puedo contestar a esa pregunta. Pero me encantaría ir por Europa a visitar diferentes clubes de referencia.

¿Cuál ha sido el evento donde más has disfrutado pinchando?

Cuando vives tan profundamente la música hasta pinchar en casa puede ser una experiencia brutal. Pero si tuviera que elegir, diría que en el festival Goa que hicimos el pasado verano, la música estaba tan alta que temblaba toda mi cabina jajaja fue una experiencia muy potente.

¿En qué formato pinchas?

Normalmente pincho con controladoras o reproductores, aunque me encanta pinchar a vinilo. Me adapto bien a lo que me pongan.

¿cuáles son tus proyectos?

¡Siempre con mil cosas entre manos! Jajaja

Actualmente y desde el año 2018 dirijo junto a mi compañero de Alemania nuestro colectivo llamado «Pulsar Events» con el cual intentamos traer hasta Canarias el concepto del Techno, así como se conoce en Europa. Es por ello por lo que nuestros eventos están enfocados sobre todo a público extranjero.

En los últimos meses estamos llevando a cabo eventos con un sistema de sonido Silent System, el cual nos permite poder seguir ofreciendo Techno de forma segura y con todas las medidas sanitarias exigidas. Una apuesta novedosa y arriesgada (pues no sabíamos cómo iba a reaccionar nuestro público ante la nueva propuesta) que ha sido un éxito tras 2 ediciones y de cara a la tercera que está prevista para Junio.

También tenemos proyectos de conservación y limpieza de espacios naturales de la isla, que consiste en grabar videoclips (con Dj’s) en zonas naturales las cuales limpiamos con un grupo de personas antes de grabar, ayudando así a mantener la isla protegida y limpia y aportando un valor añadido a éstos espacios a través de la música. Estamos a punto de grabar nuestro primer vídeo que será en un sitio muy especial!

Aparte de lo que es Pulsar en sí, ando centrada en la producción desde hace unos cuantos meses, estudiando a tope. Ahora he sacado un par de remixes en Hardwanderl Records y BlackVogue y lo que llega que serán 2 EP saldrán en unos meses en SMR Underground y Oxytech Records. Muy emocionada con ésto de la producción!

Estamos muy contentos de los resultados obtenidos en tan poco tiempo y seguimos trabajando duro para seguir viviendo este sueño.

The artist of the week: Marisol García

Thanks to our Facebook page, I have had the opportunity to connect with and feature the artist Marisol García this week. Marisol is a DJ, producer, bassist, and singer born in Gran Canaria, raised in a family of musicians, who since 2018 has directed her own collective, ‘Pulsar Events’ a collective focused on Techno culture and environmental sustainability.

We have had the opportunity to interview her and we want to share with you the questions that we have had the pleasure of asking her:

What are your origins in electronic music?

I began to study music professionally when I was 16 years old (back in 2006) graduating in electric bass and starting to sing, although I grew up in a family of musicians and from a very young age they taught me to play instruments.

After a few years in music (having performed in musicals, choirs, philharmonic orchestra and after going through the conservatory) in 2013 I got into electronics singing in different clubs, discos, festivals, competitions … and well one thing led to another! haha I consider myself a very enthusiastic and curious person who likes to learn everything and DJing seemed like something super funny that I should learn, given my love for electronic music, which has come to me since I was a child (I was a professional athlete and trance was part of my lifetime). We always trained with a full trance in the pavilions, and I remember that as one of the coolest experiences of my life, it was a really exciting and beautiful time and without a doubt, it gave me many of the ingredients that make me love techno today.

What are your reference djs?

Nina Kraviz and Marcel Dettman.

With what style or styles define your sound?

TECHNO, in all its wide spectrum of colors and textures.

What kind of music do you listen to?

I love listening to everything, classical music, rock, pop, country, music from the 80s … I really enjoy a lot with different musical styles. All good music is always welcome. Trance is without a doubt one of my favorite styles and so is Synthpop.

What is your favorite club?

Difficult … I have not had a chance to see the world or see too many clubs, so I still can’t answer that question. But I would love to go to Europe to visit different reference clubs.

What has been the event where you have most enjoyed DJing?

When you live music so deeply, even DJing at home can be a brutal experience. But if I had to choose, I would say that at the Goa festival that we did last summer, the music was so loud that my whole cabin was shaking hahaha it was a very powerful experience.

In what format do you play?
I usually DJ with controllers or players, although I love to DJ on vinyl. I adapt well to what they put me on.

What are your projects?

Always with a thousand things on hand! LOL

Currently and since 2018 I have been directing together with my partner from Germany our collective called «Pulsar Events» with which we try to bring the concept of Techno to the Canary Islands, as it is known in Europe. That is why our events are mainly focused on foreign audiences.

We are very happy with the results obtained in such a short time and we continue to work hard to continue living this dream.
